Abstract

Measuring audio amplifier efficiency with sine-waves is not representative for use with real audio signals. It is investigated if the IEC-268 test signal, that has the amplitude- and frequency characteristics of audio, is suitable for predicting amplifier efficiency. The dissipation for real audio signal samples never deviate more than 20% from this prediction. An IEC variant is proposed that is more suitable for circuit simulations.
