132nd Recording Competition Judge: Andres Mayo

Category 4 judge Andres Mayo is the cream of the crop. With an incredible number of albums under his belt and several major awards, his perspective is sure to inspire attendees of the RC finals!

 

Andres is a multiple award-winning stereo & surround Mastering Engineer with strong recording and sound post-production skills, and a DVD producer, with wide knowledge of interactive platforms.

He pioneered the art of CD and DVD mastering in Latin America since 1991, with credits in more than 1500 albums by many of the best known artists in the region, and currently runs his own facility Andres Mayo Mastering, with high resolution 5.1 mixing and mastering capability.

As an audio Engineer, Andres won five Carlos Gardel Awards to the Technical Excellence in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011 and several nominations to the Latin Grammy ® Awards and MTV Music Awards since 2002. As an independent producer, he has won 2 Latin GRAMMY ® Awards in 2008 for his 7-DVD collection “Buenos Aires, Days and Nights of Tango”, winning in the categories of Best Tango Production and Best Recording Packaging.

Having been involved with the AES as Vice President for the Latin American region between 2005 and 2009, Andres is currently Chairman of the Strategy Advisory Group (SAG) and Vice Chairman of the TC-ARMS (Audio Recording and Mastering Systems Technical Committee).

As keynote speaker, he has participated in more than 60 International Conferences in Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay, Peru, Canada and the US, including also the AES International Conventions in Munich (2009), New York (2009), New York (2011) and the coming Budapest (2012). Andres was also Member of the Jury at the following Student Recording Competitions: San Francisco (2004), Vienna (2007), New York (2007), Munich (2009), London (2010), San Francisco (2010).

132nd Recording Competition Judge: Mark Drews

132nd Recording Competition Judge: Mark Drews

Category 4 judge Mark Drews is a living AES legend. He has been engineering classical records since the 1980s and knows his stuff. Competition critics don't get much better than this!

 

Mark Drews is director of music production and recording studies at the University of Stavanger, on Norway’s southwest coast. He began his professional recording career in 1983 recording classical music and jazz for the Norwegian Broadcasting Company. From 1984 thru 1995, he was senior audio engineer/lecturer at the Syracuse University School of Music and was an active independent recording engineer and musician in Central New York. He is author of New Ears: The Audio Career & Education Handbook.

Drews has recorded thousands of concerts and other music performances in the United States and Norway for radio and commercial release. He also has designed and installed a variety of audio facilities for music recording and sound for picture.

In addition, he’s had a senior Fulbright research fellowship to Norway, an audio research residency at the Banff Centre’s music and sound department in Canada and an international visiting scholar position at the University of Michigan’s School of Music.

Drews has been involved with AES student activities for years having been on the first panel of judges at the Amsterdam convention in 1998 and several others since then.  

An advocate for the support and advancement of audio education, Mark is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and the Society of Professional Audio Recording Services. He also is a board member of the Norwegian Institute for Recorded Sound.

In his spare time, he is busy with family and friends on both sides of the Atlantic, he is musically active as bassist in the Stavanger Big Band. Just by coincidence, his wife’s name is Tone.

The combined AES 132 Education and Career Fair will take place on Saturday, April 28 from 11am to 12:30pm. Check the main AES 132 Convention page for an up-to-date location!

Looking for the best and brightest minds in the audio world? No place will have more of them assembled than the 132nd Convention of the Audio Engineering Society to be held April 26-29 in Budapest, Hungary. Companies are invited to participate in our Education and Career Fair, free of charge. This is the perfect chance to identify your ideal new hires!

All attendees of the convention, students and professionals alike, are welcome to come visit with representatives from participating companies to find out more about job and internship opportunities in the audio industry. Bring your resume!

One of the best reasons to attend AES conventions is the opportunity to make important connections with your fellow educators from around the globe. Of course, the 132nd Convention of the Audio Engineering Society to be held April 26-29 in Budapest, Hungary will not disappoint!

Academic Institutions offering studies in audio (from short courses to graduate degrees) will be represented in a "table top" session. Information on each school's respective programs will be made available through displays and academic guidance. There is no charge for schools/institutions to participate. Admission is free and open to all convention attendees.

Category 2&3 judge Marek “Maro” Walaszek is a master of the mix, working with big artists and multinational corporations. You'll want to hear what this man has to say at the RC finals!!

 

Marek “Maro” Walaszek is a mixing/recording engineer and music producer with over 15 years of experience. Throughout his career, he has worked with major record labels, artists, and advertising companies from all over the world. Rather than limiting himself to one artistic arena, Walaszek collaborates with artists from a variety of genres including hip-hop, R&B, pop, dance, jazz, rock, and even ethnic music. His mixing skills can be heard on studio records as well as live performances, film soundtracks, film sound design, commercials, and web-based media. Marek collaborates with companies, artists and record labels from Angola to Sweden to Jamaica to the Middle East, thanks to his online delivery platform pro-mixes.com. He has had the privilege to work with artists like The Rza, Method Man, Jadakiss, Raekwon, Ghost Face Killah, Redman, Masta Killa, and Capone, and has worked as a sound designer for companies like Coca-Cola, Citi Bank, Ferrero, Millennium Bank, C&A, Unicef, and many more.
