We've been in contact with our friends at Webster University in St. Louis, MO, where the 8th Annual Central Region Audio Student Summit will take place March 21-23, 2014.
Here's some information about the event:
"Our annual summit brings audio students together from all over the midwest to learn from and network with some of the industries leading professionals. The convention has been a great success in the past years and we are excited to be hosting this incredible opportunity again.
Like the national events, this summit is modeled like a mini-convention. Our goal is provide a hands on learning experience where all students get plenty of one on one time with educators and professionals in a range of
audio fields. It is a fantastic opportunity not only to network and learn but also to use some of the industry's newest gear that will be presented on our exhibit floor." Colson Wilhoit, Secretary, Webster University Student AES Section
"As of right now we have two keynotes lined up for the weekend. On Saturday, we are going to be having Ken Scott (The Beatles, Jeff Beck, Elton John, David Bowie, etc.) giving his address and with a possible 30 minute Q&A after he gets done with his speech. And, for Sunday, we are having the current President of the AES and Head of Research and Development for Harman International Industries, Dr. Sean Olive, give the first ever Bill Porter Lecture Series speech/presentation. The Bill Porter Lecture Series is going to be like the Heyser Lectures that are given at the AES Conventions every year."
"We are going to have a mix competition. As of right now, we are going to be putting the audio files up to mix on March 1st on websteraes.org, and we are going to be giving everyone 2 weeks to submit their mixes to be entered into the mix competition. We are still figuring out what the winners will be receiving, but last year we gave away close to $3,000 worth of prizes for the mix competition alone! We are also going to be raffling off prizes throughout the weekend, just for coming and checking out the summit." Andrew Witthaus, Chair, Webster University Student AES Section
And if this isn't already enough, the Webster crew have organized a three day recording session to be produced by Dr. Barry Marshall (Associate Professor at The New England Institute of Art and Emerson College) and our own Bill Crabtree (Associate Professor at Middle Tennessee State University)!
The price for all 3 days is either $30 for AES Members or $35 for non-AES Members. Registration details, including housing information, are at http://websteraes.org
