Abstract

This paper discusses the known principles of building an optical microphone transducer. It also describes bubble-sized measurements and Phone-Or's light transducer principle, its specifics and distance resolution. The paper discusses the optical microphone's specifications including the basics and characteristics; diaphragm specifics and its acoustical characteristics; noise, sensitivity, dynamic range, frequency and directional characteristics; and response to humidity, EMI, and RFI. A -smart- optical microphone and the optical microphone's prospects are also presented.
