A Single-Ended Noise Reduction System for Automotive Audio Applications

Authors: Bowers, Derek F.; Waller, Jr., James K.

AES Convention 99 · Paper 4080 · October 1995

Abstract

A single-ended noise reduction system is described, which is specifically intended to reduce background noise levels in automotive audio systems. The system described in this paper uses a combination of variable filtering and downward expansion in conjunction with a unique auto-threshold detector. This yields an effective 25 dB of improvement over FM radio, tape, and CD sources without the need for any manual adjustment.
