Sound Characterization of Urban Environments: An Approach Based on Ecological Validity

Authors: Vogel, C.; Maffiolo, V.; Polack, Jean-Dominique; Castellengo, M.

AES Convention 102 · Paper 4484 · March 1997

Abstract

In order to characterize typical soundscapes for urban environments, the authors selected a corpus of methods akin to sociological surveys. Next, recording and reproduction arrangements best adapted to the soundscapes were selected by psychoacoustic tests. The results indicate that specific recording arrangements must be used outdoors for moving sources.
