Subjective Intelligibility in Monaural Listening

Authors: Morellini, Lorenzo

AES Convention 94 · Paper 3475 · March 1993

Abstract

In order to evaluate the importance of the monaural listening parameter on subjective intelligibility, measurements were carried out using the Subjective Intelligibility Assessment Workstation (SIAW). Initial results have shown an improvement in intelligibility when going from binaural to monaural listening conditions. A disruptive noise with a varying signal-to-noise ratio was always present in both ears.
