Authors: Oppelland, Reiner

AES Convention 86 · Paper 2805 · March 1989

Abstract

The Philips-Sony Redbook for Compact Disc describes the necessary procedures for preparing the U-Matic tape-master that is used for disc mastering. Yet in daily tape mastering work a growing number of differing aspects and requirements have to be realized: tape formats, data formats, format conversions, performance of the mastering equipment in use. To this situations adds if something goes wrong: there is no >test-pressing< for the client/producer as with the vinyl LP. And if there was one: How can such person know enough about CD-spec's to tell what is right or wrong?
