AB - For a proper evaluation of compandors and noise-reduction systems, measurements have to consider the nonideal channel parameters. A test setup and test procedures are presented, which comprise a simulation unit for the analog tape or transmission channel. It allows a separated determination of the compandor properties in the presence of additive and modulation noise, linear and nonlinear distortions, as well as dropouts. Test methods are described and the results are given. The application of correlation and FFT measurement techniques as well as program-model test signals is discussed.
