Abstract

Recent years have seen the introduction of miniature condenser microphones with performance comparable to larger studio microphones. In fact, compared to large microphones, small microphones (1 cm diameter or less) have several advantages that make them especially suitable for certain applications. This paper will explain the advantages of miniature microphones, and also will cover their frequency-response phenomena, drawbacks, applications, and manufacturing considerations.
