A New Windowing Technique for Digital Harmonic Distortion Measurement

Authors: Adams, Robert W.

AES Convention 83 · Paper 2503 · October 1987

Abstract

When measuring the performance of A/D converters, it is necessary to measure harmonic distortion in the digital domain. A new method is described that allows the accurate measurement of harmonics to well below -100 dB without any of the usual restrictions on input frequency. The method involves the use of a modified triangular window whose length is derived from the data record by a simple zero-crossing technique. The window function consists entirely of integers and can therefore be easily implemented using fixed-point arithmetic.
