AB - In order to ensure the satisfactory performance of digital audio apparatus it is necessary to pay particular attention to providing a dynamic range which is sufficient for the audio signals, and to minimizing the errors and distortions which cause impairment. Coding range requirements for digital audio signals, and the audible impairments resulting from errors in the analog-digital conversion processes, from program-modulated noise and from bit errors have been studied by the BBC, and these are discussed in the paper.
