AB - The word -code- has many meanings. Some people refer to computer programs as codes; others refer to magnetic modulation schemes or analog-to-digital conversion formats as codes. However, from our point of view a code embodies a methodology for inserting digital redundancy into a digital data stream. The purpose of this redundancy is to provide some protection against errors or garbles which may occur after the encoding.
