AB - Bias oscillators are fundamentally required in audio (analog) tape recorders to linearize the tape's modulation transfer function (MTF). This paper presents a review of the requirements imposed upon the bias oscillator. The topics of 1) the bias oscillator as a source of radio-frequency-interference (RFI) to other circuits in the tape recorder, as well as 2) the circuit integrity required of the bias oscillator in order to record ultimate-fidelity analog signals, are treated.
