Quasi-Anechoic Loudspeaker Measurements: a “Step”Forward
Express Paper · Paper 414 · May 2026
Abstract
Measuring the anechoic response of a loudspeaker system requires spaces and facilities that are not commonly available. Over time, quasi-anechoic measurement techniques have become increasingly popular, enabling the exclusion of environmental reflections by time-gating the impulse response. However, the length of the time window results in a loss of information regarding low frequencies; to recover this information, the most commonly used technique is the near-field measurement described by D. B. Keele Jr. in his paper [1]. The merging of near-field and far-field responses is usually performed in the frequency domain using the Struck-Temme tecnique [2]. How does the method perform when applied in the time domain? The goal of this work is to use the near-field impulse response to reconstruct the portion of the far-field impulse
response affected by environmental reflections.
