Alienating Sound-A Definition for Noise

Authors: Szecsody, Alex J.

AES Convention 54 · Paper 1111 · May 1976

Abstract

It is recommended that noise be defined as alienating sound, thereby including considerations for measurable factors previously deleted or minimized. A new emphasis is placed on the role of the audio engineer in the performing arts theatre to consider the individual/audience environment for each performance. Each condition of auditorium acoustics would be considered: live, live with sound assistance, and live with full sound amplification.
