Modeling of distance attenuation for human voice in 6DoF audio content considering exact radiation point
Express Paper · Paper 211 · June 2024
Abstract
To realistically represent the human voice in virtual space, this study investigates the distance attenuation for the human voice in six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) audio content by considering the exact radiation point of the human voice. Before modeling the distance attenuation of the human voice, the radiation point of the human voice is derived by measuring the distance attenuation characteristics of the human voice in an anechoic chamber. Based on the results, a distance attenuation model for the human voice is proposed and formulated. The proposed model is specified by considering the following conditions: the distance attenuation is calculated in accordance with the inverse square law with respect to the radiation point; the increase in the propagation length of the human voice owing to the diffraction around the speakers head is considered when the radiation point cannot be seen from the listeners location because it is obstructed by the speakers head. For experimental verification of the proposed model, two distance attenuation models are compared: one is the simple model assuming the isotropic distance attenuation of the point source placed at the center of the speakers head; the other is the proposed model. The results show that the proposed model nearly overlaps with the measurement data and outperforms the simple model.
