Abstract
Head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) are listener-specific owing to the particular shapes of ears and heads of individuals. To personalize HRTFs, numerical simulation have been widely conducted because the requirements for specific measurement environments and equipment. The quality of three-dimensional (3D) meshes directly influences the calculation results when simulating HRTFs; thus, studies on the capture of precise head meshes are crucial. This study compares different methods of obtaining 3D meshes from the perspective of HRTFs simulation. Owing to the variety of devices available to obtain 3D meshes, three methods were selected based on different mesh acquisition principles. Medical imaging scanner equipment magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), handheld optical scanner equipment Artec EVA and three-dimensional reconstruction of multi-angle image data equipment LightCage were utilized to obtain the 3D meshes for the HRTFs simulation. The performance of the different methods applied to the HRTFs simulation was analyzed by comparing the 3D meshes captured by the three methods and the corresponding numerical simulation results.
