Current feedback techniques for loudspeaker control

Authors: Backman, Juha

AES Convention 154 · Paper 95 · May 2023

Abstract

Using non-zero amplifier output impedances provides in some cases benefits in loudspeaker designs, such as modifying the electroacoustical parameters of the driver and reducing distortion and thermal compression. The paper presents a generic method for generating frequency dependent power amplifier output impedances for driving loudspeakers, based on applying active equalization on the current feedback, and discusses the effects of the feedback on dynamic loudspeaker performance.
