AB - This paper discusses the impact of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) functionality on the acoustic impedance of headphones. We therefore show a method for the qualitative analysis of ANC headphone systems considering the occlusion effect (OE) and the “openness” of headphones. A total of 11 different headphones were measured on an acoustic impedance tube and the obtained acoustic impedance of these headphones was compared and discussed. The measurement results show that feedback-based ANC systems have a positive impact on the “openness” of headphones, since the acoustic impedance of closed headphones with ANC switched on is reduced towards the acoustic impedance of open headphones.
