A Proposed Standard Method of Measuring the Directivity Factor "Q" of Loudspeakers Used in Commercial Sound Work

Authors: Davis, Don

Journal of the Audio Engineering Society · Volume 21 · Issue 7 · September 1973

Abstract

The growing use of the directivity factor Q for determination of critical distance, limiting distance, articulation loss of consonants, attenuation with increasing distance, ratios of direct-to-reverberant sound, loudspeaker efficiencies, and, therefore, its inclousion in specifications makes it advisable to adopt a standard approach to its measurement. This paper details such a method already in use by a major manufacturer, and encourages its adoption by the industry as a whole [1]-[7].
