AB - An area of increasing relevance for developers, manufacturers and users of wirelessly-networked personal devices capable of real-time transfer of coded audio is the concept of coding scalability. In the most general sense, scalable coding implies the existence of a unified audio coding scheme that is flexible enough to allow different codec performance measures to be traded off to some degree and offers good performance over a wide variety of audio material. This paper discusses the use of dynamic composition and adaptation of a base library of signal-processing functions as a means to provide a scalable and unified audio codec for real-time wireless audio streaming that can be practically implemented on networked personal devices.
