Authors: Kingsley, Benedict

AES Convention 37 · Paper 662 · October 1969

Abstract

The genesis of the vibratory phenomena recorded on the thoracic surface in man is discussed in terms of basic principles of acoustic physics. Hardware systems for recording heart sounds and murmurs are described. Many typical phonocardiographic patterns which have been developed for a variety of cardiovascular lesions are analyzed in terms of four independent acoustic parameters, intensity, frequency, complexity and duration.
