AB - Audio signals are often stored or transmitted in a compressed, transform domain representation. This can pose a problem when there is a requirement to perform signal processing, in that it may be necessary to convert the signal back to a time domain representation prior to processing, and then re-transform. This is time-consuming and computationally intensive, and may degrade the signal. It is thus potentially more effective and efficient for the processing to be applied while the signal remains in the transform domain. We have implemented a scheme whereby processing may be applied to signals stored in a wavelet domain representation without this implicit constraint.
