Abstract

The specifications and implementation of a multi-processor computer configured as a console for the digital mixing and recording of live music are presented. The functional specifications of the machine as required by commercial and institutional users are discussed with emphasis on the human interface and its relationship to equivalent analog equipment. Hardware solutions to the functional requirements are described from the overall to specific digital circuits involved. Comparisons are made to previous designs for real and non-real time digital mixers and consoles.
