AB - The ambisonic and ambiophonic playback are very promising techniques in sound field reconstruction. The listener's brain can feel the illusion of the reproduced sound scene as if 'it was there'. In this paper the ambisonic technique is analyzed and the main issue concerning ambiophonics and B-format are revised. A dedicated room called 'arlecchino' has been simulated, calibrated, designed and finally realized for the purpose of ambisonic and ambiophonic listening tests, especially for car-audio systems improvements. Eight diffusers were implemented in the room in order to reproduce the eight-channel B-format signal. In order to test the fidelity of music and noise reconstruction, many B-format tracks have been recorded in an ancient church and notable acoustical places along with the B-format IRs of the acoustical environments. The B-format tracks were hence tested in the listening room. The main steps of the listening room designing are illustrated.
