AB - Studies of realazibility and many of nature provided examples show that the laws of physics present no barrier to reducing the size of data storage cells and logic gates, until basic components are the size of atoms or molecules. In the deep submicron and nanoscale range the physics of our devices challenges our classical design methodology. Quantum effects emerge and frequently they take dominant sway. In this review paper we call the attention on the emerging new nanoelectronic devices and circuits, and evaluate their potential role in future data recording. Recent developments in nanomechanics, single electronics, magnetoelectronics and molecular electronics will be reviwed.
