Spatial Fluctuations of Spaciousness Measures in Auditoria

Berkhout (JASA, 102, 1996) proposed that impulse responses in a hall are acquired along an array of closely spaced microphone positions. From these responses, spaciousness measures (LF, LEF, IACC) are calculated, which show large fluctuations over spatial ranges where spaciousness perception is constant. The perceptual relevance of these fluctuations is discussed. Approaches are proposed to define measures that better match the perceptual variations.:
