When freed from the constraints on the dynamic range of audio signals imposed by the analogue environment, broadcasters providing digital services have responded in a number of different ways. Some have continued to radiate programs with a high degree of compression; others have exploited the capability of the digital medium to cope with a wider dynamic range. This paper examines the situation in the UK`s digital radio services and presents some ideas for setting program levels.
