The present work deals with some aspects of target function setup for loudspeaker/room equalizers and the preprocessing necessary for the design of equalization filters to be compliant with room acoustics and human psychoacoustics. Band smoothing of impulse response spectra: is a way of reducing processing requirements and at the same time end up with a physical realistic equalization design. Warped filters is a technique which can further reduce signal processing complexity. After discussing characteristics of a "good" room we suggest that future equalizers take a starting point in repairing bad acoustics instead of aiming at total de-reverberation leading to the anechoic listening room.
