In this paper, a method is described for the estimation of the pitch of non-ideal harmonic sounds at a wide frequency band. To achieve robustness against noise, the designed system is built upon completely independent pitch estimations at distinct frequency bands. A novel method is presented which allows pitch determination using only higher order harmonics, even several octaves above the actual fundamental frequency. The system was validated using different musical instruments and a wide pitch range.
