Comparison of Data- and Model-Based Simulation Algorithms for Auditory Virtual Environments

A headphone-based auralization system which relies on measured data for the acoustic display of surround sound control rooms has been developed. It includes the dynamic convolution of stored binaural room impulse responses, controlled by a head-tracker. This paper discusses achievable accuracy and processing cost of this data-based system with conventional model- based approaches for virtual auditory environments.
