Architecting a Versatile Multi-Channel Multi-Decoder System on a DSP

This paper presents a system level architecture which has been demonstrated to seamlessly integrate multiple audio decoders (Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG, PCM) onto a single DSP chip. System level issues such as autodetection, task switching, volume management, and support for differentiating post processing functions across decoders are addressed and described as implemented in the open software architecture of Motorola`s DSP56362.
