A new algorithm for echo cancellation in the time domain has been developed. The algorithm uses a single measurement of a loudspeaker`s impulse response in a reflective environment to construct an impulse response that is similar to a real anechoic measurement. The method has been tested using simulated as well as measured room impulse responses and results show an agreement with true anechoic measurement within 2 dB for frequencies between 40 and 1000 Hz. The method can be used with success if the separation between the direct sound wave and the first reflection is long enough. It might also be difficult to get accurate results with loudspeakers whose impulse responses decay very slowly. The method can also be used to improve the measurement accuracy for low frequencies in an anechoic chamber.
