AB - Spatialization of sound in user interfaces is discussed. With increased use of audio, allowing spatial discrimination should increase usability and performance. Our spatial audio strategy uses monitor-side loudspeakers and crosstalk-cancellation. In mapping auditory space onto the interface's visual space, we exaggerate directional audio cues and incorporate auditory distance. A series of pilot tests confirm that this strategy retains audio-visual cohesion.
