Abstract

Fast algorithms for accurate sound localization in space are proposed. They are based on the approximation of summary sound spectrum, obtained from five loudspeakers, to one that must be percepted from a virtual source placed at given point in space. The appropriate software allows the use of inexpensive hardware with the same accuracy. The authors have developed the methodology and software which allow complete calculations of the whole 40-sq.-m grid with a 12-cm step in 0.2-1.5 min. using a Pentium II computer, depending on the accuracy of the equipment.
