AB - Noise-to-mask ratio (NMR) is a perceptual measurement scheme which gives information about the distance between actual noise and masking threshold. It has been shown to be a useful tool in the development and comparison of perceptual coding schemes. Some "perceptual experiments" carried out with the measurement system as a "test subject" are presented. The results of these measurements are compared with the results obtained with human listeners.
