Many audio manufacturers, consciously or unconsciously, connect balanced shields to audio signal ground. This is the source of many audio interconnection humm and buzz problems. The options available to manufacturers who follow this improper practice are discussed. Both balanced and unbalanced schemes and their incompatibilities are covered. Many manufacturers may already follow proper interconnecting practices. Those who are not have many options, including doing nothing.
