Measuring the Quality of Speech and Music Codecs: An Integrated Psychoacoustic Approach

In the literature, there is a large amount of information on how to measure the quality of speech codecs and some information on how to measure the quality of music codecs. There is, however, no information on perceptual-quality measurements that can be applied to both narrow-band speech and broad-band music codecs. This paper shows that it is possible to use the same psychoacoustic sound representation for measuring both the quality of speech and music codecs. Only the cognitive interpretation of the psychoacoustic sound representation is : different.
