Fast Algorithm on MPEG/Audio Subband Filtering

Subband filtering is one of the compute-intensive operations in the MPEG audio coding standard. By using the periodicity of the cosine and the symmetric property of the window, the subband filtering equation can be rearranged to a 32-point DCT-II or DCT-III. That is to say, window operation is followed by a 32-point fast DCT and is computed efficiently by taking advantage of the modified window coefficients. So, in MPEG subband filtering by the authors` fast algorithm, 2560 multiplications in the MPEG subband filtering can be reduced to only 464 multiplications.
