Subtractive synthesis, or source-filter synthesis, is a well-known topic in electronic and computer music. In this paper, a description is given of a flexible subtractive synthesis scheme utilizing a set of tunable digital bandpass filters. Specific examples and applications are presented for real-time subtractive synthesis of singing and other musical signals.
