Various measurement techniques such as maximum-length sequence (MLS), sinusoidal sweep, noise burst, Golay code, and dual-channel FFT are simulated to determine the effect of nonlinearities in the measurement system. Real measurements of some of the techniques are compared to the simulations to aid in the understanding of the simulation. Each type has its own peculiarities: the exponential sweeps give distinctive localized artifacts in the impulse response, whereas in the linear sweep the effects are spread out. With the MLS, the distortion causes small spikes spread throughout the entire record.
