AB - Audio coding methods (both lossy and lossless) can benefit from prior knowledge of audio signal statistics, which can exploit time domain stationarities. An extensive study is presented applying numerous criteria (e.g., energy, entropy, tonality, and likelihood) to successive frames of audio data. The statistics of these criteria variations are presented and classified, together with an assessment of their respective performance.
