New Improvements in ARCO (Adaptive Resolution COdec)

The adaptive resolution codec (ARCO) coding environment is being developed with the aim of studying the feasibility of adapting both the perceptual analysis and the coding strategies to the audio signal. Some major changes have been developed in some modules, while keeping the original structure. The wavelet-packet decomposition has been improved, using different length filters as the scale changes and minimizing some boundary distortions. Perceptual and cognitive considerations are used in the bit-assignment routine to achieve a band-limited artifacts-free synthetic signal, whenever the bit-rate is not high enough to provide transparency.
