A Review and Comparison of Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) Methods for Analog and Digital Input Switching Power Amplifiers

Switching power amplifiers can be based on various analog or digital, two- or three-level pulse-width modulation (PWM) methods. The paper provides a review and an in-depth theoretical analysis of 12 variants of natural sampled, uniform sampled, or hybrid sampled PWM methods. Several not previously considered modulation variants are analyzed. Practical results for implemented amplifier examples are given.
