A new type of compiler allows the implementation of a connection-oriented model in a scalable system without the necessity of defining processing, signal routing, and control domains in separate terms. A connection-oriented model is defined by the interconnections between specified objects. A scalable system allows free-choice of the number of DSPs within a given connection structure. The paper describes the compiler methodology and discusses the implications with regard to the design of a state-of-the-art digital mixing console.
