The investigations, carried out at Lake, into various methods for generating simulated acoustic experiences has recently led to the development of a new method for playing back 5.1-channel surround sound for presentation over headphones or loudspeakers. The system relies on accurate modeling of the acoustics of the simulated playback room to provide a natural surround experience.
