Interval Pitching Accuracy of Children Aged 7 to 11

This paper describes the SINGAD (SINGing Assessment and Development) system which is designed to measure and provide training for the note pitching skills of children. We present SINGAD assessment data from a York primary school to enable a comparison of children`s ability to pitch musical intervals irrespective of the absolute value of the pitch. In particular, a number of subject specific pitching strategies are highlighted in terms of the accuracy of each of the individual musical intervals used in the assessment, and these are presented, discussed, and compared by school year.
