A New Approach to Acoustic Investigation of Organ Sound

The approach is directed towards an objective description of the merits of an organ playing its plenum sound. In contrast to existing elaborate methods of the acoustic investigation of organ instruments, this approach is conceived to be as simple as possible, i.e. instead of analyzing all possible sounds of an organ stop or section, it delivers analysis results concerning a specifically chosen sound sample; this, presented in the form of the resulting index of spectral distribution uniformity of plenum sounds, evaluated with reference to the critical bands of hearing, permits rough assessment of organ sound quality.
