A Study of Program-Level Overloading in Phonograph Recording

Displacement, slope, and curvature overload limits in phonograph recording are defined in terms of groove and styli dimensions which are currently standard for 45/45 stereo-disks. Instrumentation is described for making independent measurements of the occurrence of each type of overload. Data are presented showing the number of occurrences of each type of overload as a function of program level for several musical selections.
